There are two types of hair removal methods that are very popular.

1. Temporary hair removal – It is a method that must be done on a regular basis. Once the body hair is removed, the hair can grow back at any time. This method can be easily done by yourself to save time and money.

But there is a risk that the body hairs that grow back may become thicker and darker than before. Also there may be other problems such as keratosis pilaris, chicken skin, and large pores. There are 4 main types of temporary hair removal methods as follows:

• Wax can be divided into 2 main types: Cold wax and hot wax. It can be done by applying wax to the hairy areas, leave it for 5 minutes, then peel it off immediately. The advantage of this method is that it is fast and cheap. But it is directly rubbed against the skin which can cause pain and skin irritation especially if the waxing technician does not have enough expertise. Wax needs to be done repeatedly to get all the body hairs off and it may cause the skin to become inflamed.
• Body Hair plucking is the use of tweezers or epilators to remove unwanted hair roots. The advantage is that it can be done by yourself and cheap. But the disadvantage is that it hurts the skin, takes a long time to finish, and risks having keratosis pilaris, chicken skin, and large pores.
• Body Hair shaving is the use of a razor or electric shaver. Start from using a foam shower cream to wipe the hairy area that needs to be shaved to help the hair from becoming stiff and can be shaved off more easily. It also helps to reduce the risk that the razor will cut the skin as well. The advantage of this method is that it can be done by yourself, does not hurt the skin, and does not take a long time. But the new body hair will grow quickly and requires frequent shaving.
• Body Hair removal cream is the use of cream on the hairy area that needs to be removed. Just apply, wait for 5-15 minutes, and wash it off. The advantage is that it can be done by yourself, doesn’t hurt your skin, and doesn’t take a long time. The disadvantage is that some brands have an unpleasant smell, new hair grows quickly, and requires frequent shaving.

2. Permanent hair removal – it is a method that the body hairs will continue to decrease or grow slowly after the treatment. It does not directly rub against the skin, and gets rid of keratosis pilaris, chicken skin, and large pores. But this method needs to be done by a medical professional only. There are two main types of permanent hair removal methods as follows:

• Electrolysis or Radiofrequency abduction is the method that you need to apply a cold compress to numb the skin before doing it as a small needle must be inserted into the hair follicle together with chemical use or heat to destroy the hair follicle. The advantage of this method is that the hair follicle can be removed and hairs will decrease significantly. But you might feel sharp pain during the treatment and need to continue treatment repeatedly to get rid of it all. The price depends on the clinic.
• Hair removal laser is the most popular method nowadays. By applying a cool gel cream to the skin to numb the skin first then the laser will be irradiated to the hairy area in order to capture the pigment and halt the hair growth.
